• P E R C Y • J A C K S O N •P – PoseidonThe god that connects Percy with the entire Greek world. Poseidon is Percy’s father and is ruler over the Sea. Over thirteen years ago, Poseidon met Percy’s mother and had a summer romance with her. It could not be anything more as Poseidon had kept it a secret in fear of his brother, Zeus finding out (due to a pact made by the Big Three) but the Sea God ultimately had to return to his domain. This return terminated the relationship between the lovers and made the connection between father and son out of distance and ignorance. Until at least, the time was right for Percy to discover the underling society within America. Since this discovery was made, Percy’s relationship with his father has begun to construct itself as the pair interact more and more with each other.
E – Excessive Personal LoyaltyExcessive Personal Loyalty (EPL) is Percy’s fatal flaw. It means that, in the words of Athena, “To save a friend, [Percy] would sacrifice the world.” So if someone Percy cared about was in danger, he would put his life on the line just to save them.
Fatal flaw or not, Excessive loyalty is not Percy's only personality trait. He is a natural leader, willing to risk his life in difficult situations (especially if it is for those who he considers friends) and never goes back on his word. This demigod doesn't always see the right answer, not that he isn't smart he's just a bit obtuse. Although, Percy can be perceptive every now and then, when he wants to be. Percy is very sarcastic, as seen in his sense of humour, and heavily dislikes being restrained. A personality trait he shares with his father. Percy is also very unpredictable like the sea in the sense that he can be short-tempered and thus starts blurting things out without thinking first, something that has always landed him in a worse situation.
R – RiptideRiptide (or ‘Anaklusmos’ in Ancient Greek) is Percy’s trusted sword. This primary choice of weapon can be viewed in one of two states: a) its pen form for whenever Percy has no impending need for it and b) its sword form for battle. The ability to shift between the two forms is not the only magical property in which the sword possesses. In fact, it can also appear in Percy’s pocket whenever he loses it which allows Percy to effectively use his time in battle rather than spend it trying to grab his weapon, putting him in a position of weakness. Another useful property is the fact that it cannot be used to kill mortals.
C – Chase, AnnabethAnnabeth Chase is the focus of Percy’s affections. The pair met after Percy’s initial arrival at Camp Half-Blood with Annabeth tending to his injuries after fighting a Minotaur. It was here that their history together began. It’s weird in a way that Percy should develop feelings for this girl. For start, they did start off as friends and not to mention the rivalry between their Olympian parents – you fight over the patronage of one city and from then on, you cannot help but compete over matters.
Y – Yancy AcademyFor Percy, the place that acted as a physical catalyst for his induction into the world of Gods, monsters and the Underworld was Yancy Academy. It was here that Percy, at the age of twelve, met Chiron the fabled teacher of heroes (then under the alias of Mr.Brunner), Grover Underwood and the first in a long line of monsters to be defeated, Alecto the Fury. Had it not been for Percy’s constant expulsion from various schools, he would not have made it to the Academy and thus prolonged (even for a little while) the attack on Percy at the age of twelve.
J – Jet Propulsion
Jet propulsion (if utilizing any water in the surrounding area) is just one of the many powers that Percy has at his disposal, being the son of Poseidon. Percy as a demigod has the standard powers such as enhanced alertness and keen senses within battle (due to his ADHD) but in context of his father's domain, he has the powers such as hydrokinesis, limited clairvoyance, underwater respiration and divine authority over certain creatures (any thing that lives in the sea and equestrian creatures). Due to the fact that Percy is a child of the Big Three, he is more powerful than a lot of other demigods.
A - AppearanceIn terms of his appearance, Percy looks like his father – tall in stature, sea-green eyes and jet black hair. He is additionally athletic from having doing three quests, not to mention any training at camp and P.E. class at the latest in the string of schools under his name he has participated in.
In terms of his clothing, Percy would just wear jeans and a t-shirt unless he is training or on a quest. If he is doing either, then Percy would be more practical in his choice of clothing.
C – Camp Half-BloodCamp Half-Blood has become Percy’s second home. Percy's first interaction with the camp followed a trying journey in which Percy fought (and beat) the Minotaur and lost his mother temporarily. Percy's time at camp was spent trying to fit in with everyone whilst dealing with the fact that his existence was damaging the civil war between the Big Three. Once claimed, Percy set off on a quest to find the Master Bolt and Helm of Darkness in time for the Summer Solstice. The Quest for the Master Bolt was a key stepping stone in Percy's life at Camp Half-Blood.
The time spent that summer encouraged the anticpation for Percy's return the following year. The demigod's return saw the camp in a different state. Thalia's tree had been poisoned and so a quest was called for in order to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Unfortunately Percy wasn't chosen to lead the quest and so had to sneak his way out of camp in order to find Grover. This led Percy on a journey to find the missing Satyr, including facing the cyclop, Polyhemus. Thankfully, both the Golden Fleece and Grover were located and brought back to camp. The fleece was immediately put to use but worked a little too well in that it returned Thalia, Percy's cousin to her former self. Percy was no longer the only potiental candidate for the Great Propercy.
This brings us up to Percy's most recent interactions with anything Camp Half-Blood. The Son of Poseidon has just returned from a quest to save the goddess Artemis. The quest seems to have had more than one positive outcome - the capture of Luke Castellan, the enemy's right hand man.
The camp has helped Percy on his way to becoming the hero that he is today. He has met so many people and creatures because of his time spent here during the summer holidays. In saying that, it has also provided the demigod with so many challenges as well by sending him on quests with permission of Chiron. Percy would be a different person had he not had his time at Camp Half-Blood.
K – KronosKronos, the Titan of time, has been gathering up his strength and is in the process of reforming his physical body. How does this relate to Percy? In the past, Kronos has tried to place Percy within his grand plan in order to take over the world and start a new Golden Age for he [Kronos] is aware of the most recent Great Prophecy:A half-blood of the eldest gods
shall reach sixteen against all odds
And see the world in endless sleep
The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap
A single choice shall end his days
Olympus to preserve or raze.Percy is ‘a half-blood of the eldest gods’ a few years short of his sixteenth birthday and so is a potential candidate for the prophecy alongside Thalia Grace (Daughter of Zeus), Bianca and Nico di Angelo (Children of Hades). If Percy or any of these demigods were to fufill the prophecy in an unfavourable manner, it would mean a dark age for humanity.
It is for this reason that Kronos is a threat, not just to Percy, but to Western Civilization.
S – Sally JacksonSally Jackson - the woman that solely raised her son over the years. Her love for Percy is so strong that she would put up with having to go through marriage with Gabe Ugliano. Sally, by protecting her son from monsters and the rest of the world his father belongs to, protected Percy so that she could raise him the right way and set him on the right track to becoming a hero.
In extension of this, it was Sally that named her son after the only demigod to have a happy ending as a form of good look charm; she stood by him after every school expulsion whether it be due to dropping his class into shark infested waters or blowing up a school bus; she has stood by him every time he has gone on a quest, accepting the dangers he will face.
O – OlympusHome to the gods, including Percy’s father Poseidon. In the time that Percy has known of Olympus, he has visited it at the top of the Empire State Building twice. It was here that Percy first met his father and in a way so holds a special place in his heart but it was also here that Percy’s life was saved by the Gods in their decision-making.
N – New York CityNew York has been Percy’s place of residence his entire life and he stays there whenever he is not at camp or on a quest. Aside from this, the city is also home to the Olympic Gods and the heart of Western Culture making the island of Manhattan in particular a danger zone really.
