WHERE'S YOUR PASSION WHERE'S YOUR FIRE TONIGHT I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE'S NOTHING YOU'RE WILLING
TO HIDE I WANT TO BELIEVE I SET MY BODY ON FIRE TO BE FREE
Thalia didn't feel like going to a place where everyone was cheery and happy and really, too much positive had always greatly annoyed her. There wasn't a lot in the world to be happy about, and at the risk of sounding depressed, she really didn't feel like she needed to be at this stupid campfire just to not sing and sit there and stare at the fire. However, Clarisse and Beckendorf had been adamant - Clarisse because Thalia had annoyed her the other day for fun and this was payback, and Beckendorf because his girlfriend had said that this would be good for Thalia. Now, Thalia didn't exactly have a problem with Silena Beckendorf, but they'd never been in the same circles, and honestly, the daughter of Zeus wanted to keep it that way. She found the children of Aphrodite highly annoying, and she thought that they really needed to buy themselves brains and hide all their memories. She thought it was ridiculous, their high maintenance attitudes and their lack of desire in learning how to defend and protect themselves and the camp in times of war. They were useless in her opinion, but this was Beckendorf's girlfriend, and so Thalia said nothing. She and Beckendorf respected each other - she wouldn't do something like that to an equal. Putting him in a bad spot wasn't right, nor fair.
Her thoughts ... they weren't something she wanted to pay attention to. Not right now. Not when there were so many people around. Maybe she could focus. Focus on the happiness, on everything happening around her. Clarisse was next to Silena, who was leaning into Beckendorf, and though the latter two were singing along with the campfire songs, Clarisse was staring into the fire. Thalia got it. They all had a lot on their minds. The lucky ones ... well, the lucky ones could distract themselves, and forget. They could go to bed, and not have to think about anything serious until morning, when they woke up fully rested and prepared to face a new day. She didn't count herself unlucky, but she surely wasn't lucky, either. Almost none of them were. Nothing came easily to demigods. It just wasn't the way that things worked. With godly blood in them, it was a curse as much as it was a blessing. Thalia wholeheartedly believed in that. She believed from the moment they were born, they were destined to die not long after. Annabeth was thirteen, Luke was twenty, and she sat heavily at sixteen, that cursed number. Maybe she'd be first. What morbid thoughts on a cold, noise-filled night.
But then everyone was going into their cabins. Goodnights were being exchanged, as well as hugs and sometimes kisses between couples, before they headed their separate ways. Thalia could see Hestia on the opposite side of the fire, bringing the flame down and make it so that it didn't raise too high in the night. The last thing that they needed was a chance of Camp Half-Blood burning down over night, something that the gods surely wouldn't let happen. Then again ... gods were fickle, so who knew for sure? She was one of the few left, though she stayed seated. The rest straggled, talking and joking around. She was sure that they were children of Hermes. Maybe they were planning a prank, or something of that nature. Maybe they just didn't know what to do with themselves, since they obviously weren't tired enough to sleep, like the majority of camp. She shrugged, almost to herself, and turned back to the fire that was settling on the embers, soon to go out. Hestia was no where in sight. She was here, by herself, wrapped up in her winter gear. She almost went to stand, but she stopped herself. Where would she go? Her cabin? No. She could go and do some late night training ... no, if Mr. D found her again she really knew she'd get into some trouble, not because she was out late but because she would end up "mouthing off" once more. She stuffed her hands into her coat and exhaled heavily, her breath coming out in a cloud of steam. Maybe she'd be able to stomach cabin one in a little bit. Until then, she would stay right here.
