Thalia usually hated the pegasi. She hated anything associated with heights, really. Planes, tall buildings, ladders, pegasi. Pretty much anything that would take her off the ground, she hated. She liked it when her feet were firmly planted on the ground, on the floor, on somewhere where she knew she could stand tall. Since she was a daughter of Zeus, most people would've thought that she'd loved being up high, that the sky was her best friend, and that she loved flying and traveling. No. It was the exact opposite. Not that many people knew that. She didn't like the fact that she had such a huge weakness. She didn't let it stop her, but it was something that could've been easily used against her. No one that knew would do that to her, though. Or ... no, Thalia snapped at herself. She forced her thoughts in a different direction. Today was a new day. Today, she would be better. She would even try to talk to Percy without biting off his head. Maybe. She would see what she was capable of - for Annabeth, maybe, she could try. Anything to make the blonde happy.
Pegasi were Poseidon's animals. He created horses, and the only thing that made horses different from pegasi were that pegasi could fly, and horses couldn't. She knew that Percy could speak to pegasi, as he had seen when Percy had had a full out conversation with one he referred to as Blackjack. She thought he was crazy, but then again, if he was crazy, what were she and Annabeth? She wouldn't touch that topic, not at all. She didn't like that word anyway - crazy. It went hand in hand with insane. They were the children of Greek Gods, they fought monsters ... really, none of them were clinically sane. This could all be a shared delusion. Thunder rumbled in the sky, and a rueful smirk came upon her face. Not because her father was angry - really, she could care less. But because he was paying attention to her, trying to keep an eye on her, for whatever reason he had in mind. Zeus always had some motive, a reason for doing something. Except for sleeping with her mother. At least twice. She bit down on her tongue as a long, strong rumble of thunder rippled and tumbled through the sky. Surely, all the demigods were now expecting a storm. Usually, Zeus didn't pull that twice. Maybe he was feeling lenient, instead of blasting her right off the ground with lightning in punishment, he would make a lot of noise. Or maybe he was just unusually touchy. Either way.
But animals couldn't talk. Maybe that's why she was here, when it was cold and she should've been training in doors and ignoring the falling snow that was falling everywhere but inside Camp Half-Blood's borders. She thought it was quite ridiculous that, when they could control the weather, they let it get so cold. She was a winter child, having just turned sixteen, and she loved the weather like this. But it wasn't ideal for training, and she could see why the weather-control "feature" existed. Maybe the Gods enjoyed watching them all freeze. They were all quite sadistic. The smell of fresh grapes was immediately under her nose. Two for two - Zeus and Dionysus. Maybe today wouldn't be as positive as she thought. She went up to one of the pegasi, one of the smallest in the stables, and eyed it. It looked at her curiously, sniffing at her and pulling back. She must have smelled a lot different than Percy - Percy probably smelled like sea water to them, while she just smelled like a whole lot of ozone. She shrugged, and put a hand out. It gradually got closer and closer to her, snuffling at her hand. Maybe they weren't so bad, after all.
