Dawn hadn't yet broken when Serena's eyes opened. Her body stretched languidly in bed clinging to the warmth the comfortable linen offered her. She turned over in bed and clutched the pillow as she gazed around the cabin. She had been lucky to get a bed near the window and so when the curtains were open, she was gifted with a beautiful view of the camp in the morning. However she didn't wish to disturb any of her sleeping siblings right now. Carefully she climbed out of bed without making too much noise and grabbing some clothes and her shoes, along with her toiletries, she made her way over to the showers.
She quickly washed and dressed and once her teeth were done, she made her way back to her cabin and deposited her things. She grabbed her archery equipment and left the cabin. It was still dark but Rena wanted to get a good spot in the archery area before others woke up. Besides she found a great deal of tranquility in the morning. Everything was so quiet and peaceful. She enjoyed that. You certainly didn't get that in the city. Not by a long shot, at least.
She pushed her hair back into a ponytail and made her way over to the training area. As she arrived and put her bow and quiver down, the sun began to rise. Rena stopped what she was doing and found herself watching it. The sunlight bathed the valley in gold and across the river, she could see nereids swimming about, greeting the day. Rena smiled a little and sat down as she waited for the sun to rise a little higher in the sky.
Somehow sunrises always made her feel closer to her father, Apollo. Rena often wondered whether he being her father was the real reason she had always been an early riser but she could never be that sure really.
Once that she saw the sun was high enough, she rose to her feet and slipped her quiver over her shoulder. Lining up her bow, she notched an arrow and aimed at one of the training dummies. She counted to three and fired... The arrow bounced off the dummy's head and Rena smiled a little. For a child of Apollo she didn't have the knack for archery just yet. It amused her greatly.

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTEMMIEVENTURA NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT Eyes closed and a pillow over her head, Emmie could still hear her cabinmates beginning to move around, rather noisily. She'd probably been lying in her bunk for an hour, unable to get back to sleep--which was crazy, especially for her. With an exaggerated sigh, Emmie sat up, only to bump her head rather hardly on the bunk above her.
"Ow!" Emmie cried, cradling her head. While she'd been squeezing her eyes shut, one of the Hermes kids had been asking if she was alright. Finally realizing that, Emmie nodded. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Oh, no! I don't need to go there...really, I'm fine. Thanks!" She managed a smile for the kind camper, but she was in pain. Emmie silently laughed at herself; what sort of demigod got tears in their eyes over a bump on the head?
She heaved herself out of bed, instantly wishing she could lay back down in the warm layers of her many blankets. Instead, she found her brush and pulled out her mirror, slowly pulling the brush through her hair. Once it looked nice, she pulled her bangs back and clipped a simple white barrette into her hair, keeping most of it out of her face. Glancing around, she realized the cabin was empty, except for maybe one or two people sleeping, and another girl doing her hair. 'How long have I been brushing my hair?' Emmie thought to herself, amused.
Figuring no one would care, nor see, Emmie pulled out her outfit for the day and quickly got dressed. And she was right; no one noticed she'd completely stripped and re-dressed in the cabin. Letting out a giggle, Emmie nearly skipped out of the cabin, dead-set on getting in some archery practice. Nearly everyone knew how terrible she was at it (though none seemed to realize she was even worse with a sword), and she wanted to change that. If only Emmie knew how to handle her hands with her skinny wooden bow.
Quickening into a relaxing run, which turned out to be not-as-relaxing with the box on her back, Emmie found herself at the Archery Range in just minutes. Amazingly, there was only a couple people there. One, she didn't really know. The other, a girl, she was sure was an Apollo camper. Yet as she watched her launch an arrow, it bounced off. She giggled, and headed towards the girl.
"Hi! I'm Emilia Ve--well, actually Emmie." Emmie introduced herself, wondering if the girl knew Emmie or not. She didn't really talk to many of the Apollo or Ares campers. They...they weren't her type, so to speak. "I thought Apollo campers were supposed to be amazing at archery!" Emmie mused, glancing over at the training dummy. "But, you're still better than me. I'm sure I'll get better at it one day, though." She shrugged, smiling.

Rena glared at the arrow that had bounced but softened her expression and produced another arrow. She would collect them soon. She looked up as she heard a soft giggling. A dark haired girl was stood before her. Rena didn't really acknowledge the fact the girl could be meanly laughing at her. The laughter sounded too sweet for that. Instead Rena smiled a little bit at the girl and began to notch it in her bow. Waiting until the girl was out of the way of the target, she fired. This one ended up in the dummy's shoulder.
"Hey, I'm Serena but you can call me Rena," Rena told the girl with a smile. She smiled sheepishly at the comment about children of Apollo. "Er... I don't quite have the natural talents that my siblings have but I'm getting better," she admitted. "I've never wounded or killed anyone so maybe that's the extent of my natural ability," she lightly joked. "Still maybe it'll just take practice yeah? I mean I don't know how long my siblings have been at camp... hmm" she smiled.
"Sorry, I'm rambling aren't I?" she chuckled and smiled at the other girl's assertion that she was probably better than Emmie. Then it's probably best that we're both taking the time to practice," Rena told the girl with a friendly tone. "I suspect as long as our aim is fairly true then it doesn't really matter which part of the enemy we hit as long as we hit them" she added musingly. She set up a third arrow and sent it flying into the dummy's right arm. She smiled a little.

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTEMMIEVENTURA NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT Emmie liked this girl--she didn't seem put off by the way Emmie had approached her, like a lot of people did. She was also friendly, and seemed optimistic. Sort of like Emmie, if you thought about it. Just in a more...intelligent way. After hearing the girl's nickname, she grinned. "Rena! I like that." Emmie said honestly, looking up at the taller girl. "Well, everyone says 'practice makes perfect', so all you can really do is practice shooting and hope you'll get better. That's what I'm trying to do." Emmie turned towards another dummy a bit further back, intending to shoot at that one from an angle. It wasn't like you'd get a chance to shoot an enemy head on. "Well, what I've been trying to do. I'm making progress. Maybe."
She moved over a bit, giving Serena some room, and herself so she could properly pull back the arrow. Emmie glanced over at the other girl. She seemed like she was doing it right; Emmie actually barely knew what she was going. Chances were, she was doing everything wrong, some how. But how hard could shooting an arrow be? Slowly, Emmie put an arrow...where it went...and pulled it back. She adjusted her aim so the arrow was just above the heart--that's how she was supposed to aim, right?--and let it go. For once, Emmie actually hit the dummy. But it was down on its leg, not even near where she'd been aiming. Emmie repeated the process, this time not even hitting her target. Letting out a breath of frustration, the girl turned back to Serena.
"Unless you can't even hit the target!" Emmie told her, giggling. "I bet we'd make an awesome team. If I aimed for the head, I could probably hit right below the heart or something. And you'd probably like be right near where you were aiming anyways, so it's like boom! Solider down!" She spoke fast, moving her hands wildly as she talked. "Ah, sorry. I got excited." Emmie apologized, though she wasn't exactly sorry. She'd actually been trying to explain her behavior; saying she was 'excited' was the best she could do.

"Thanks" Rena smiled at the compliment to her nickname.
"Oh believe me, I'd love to wound a monster. I just meant I haven't wounded any campers so maybe that's all my ability is limited to... not killing allies" Rena chuckled. She gently stroked her chin as she looked at the targets. She was doing everything she was supposed to do, why was her aim so... well not great? She couldn't understand why all other Apollo campers seemed to be better at it than her. Was she just not meant to be an archer or something? Or maybe it was a case of them being more experienced. Maybe she needed to put more hours in here... well in which case she was already doing so. Perhaps she should ask Chiron for tips on ways she could seek improvement.
She turned back to Emmie with a chuckle. Yeah that part would be kind of mandatory, hitting the target... she laughed. Though scaring them and making them lose focus would also be good too. I'd prefer to be able to actually kill the rotten beasts.
She chuckled at Emmie's suggestion for team tactics. "You know what, Emmie? That's not a half bad idea. At least we'd get some monsters down between us..." she smiled in amusement. "We could always get tutoring from the other Apollo campers.... cringy as it would be for me to admit it," Rena smiled. She chuckled. "I can just imagine how awkward it would be. It'd be like an alcoholic bringing a bottle of tequila to one of his AA meetings..." she muttered smiling at the comparison. "But I doubt it'll be that bad really. I don't think some would mind helping out if need be."
